About This Item

Published by Bloomsbury Publishing, London; 2015. 8vo. 652pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Fine

Bound in original back cloth boards with the title in gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in beautiful condition with just a couple of fain rub marks and a slight hint of bumping to the spine ends. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and free from marks or blemishes. In all, the book appears barely read.

The book is housed in its original first issue dust jacket, vibrant and bright and free from any marks or damage.

In all, this is an excellent collectible example of this definitive biography on a major author of the twentieth century, described by Ian McEwan as 'perhaps the most significant novelist of the second half of the twentieth century in Britain.' The biography was written with exclusive access to David Cornwell himself, as well as his private archive and to all the most important people in his life - family and friends, enemies, intelligence ex-colleagues, and ex-lovers - this extraordinarily insightful biography is constantly revealing, and brings in from the cold a man whose own life has been as complex and confounding and filled with treachery as any of his novels. It would make a fascinating and insightful addition to any le carre collection.
