Quarto (11 1/4" x 7 1/2") bound in original publisher's beige cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original pictorial jacket. First American edition thus. First published from 1851 to 1853. The Stones of Venice examines Venetian architecture in detail, describing for example over eighty churches. He discusses architecture of Venice's Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance periods, and provides a general history of the city. Condition: Jacket spine sunned else Better than very good in like jacket.
