San Francisco: The Sierra Club, 1930. Hardcover. Very Good. Limited to 1,500 copies printed by Taylor & Taylor. Classic account of a camping trip in the High Sierras undertaken by University of California professor of geology and history Joseph Le Conte (1823-1901) in July and August 1870, accompanied by Professor Frank Soule, Jr. and eight members of the student body. This was LeConte's first trip to the Yosemite region, to be followed by ten more over the next thirty years. Foreword by Francis P. Farquhar. Octavo: [xvi], 152 p. with a frontispiece portrait, a facsimile of the title page of the 1875 first edition, and three photographs. Original blue paper-covered boards over a linen spine, with a printed paper spine label. A bit of wear to the lower corners, with some mild rubbing and toning to the spine label; otherwise very good.
