A signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and first vice-president of the Republic of Texas. He was Houston's aid-de-camp at the battle of San Jacinto. He wrote Journey in Spanish to inform and instruct the Mexican people about customs, development and political philosophy of the U.S. Zavala's "Viage a los Estados-Unidos del Norte de America" was originally published in Paris in 1834. This is the first English translation.

A previous owner drew a colorful design all over the rear free endpaper. The text is unmarked and the binding is tight. The jacket has a few tiny closed tears along the edges, and the original price has been scribbled out. A sturdy, readable copy in nice shape overall. The scarce journal of Lorenzo de Zavala, the Mexican politician who helped draft a constituion for the Republic of Texas. Inscribed on the front endpaper by the translator, Wallace Woolsey. Contains black and white illustrations.
