About This Item

Fresno: Sage-West Publishing Company, 1971. Pamphlet. 31p. including photos, later printing, 9x6 inch photodecorated wraps. Mild crimping along the spinefold, and back cover bears thumbprints; a fine copy within, no ownerships or any marking. On the only woman lynched during the gold rush; heavily reported at the time and her name was multiple times recorded as Josefa. Anti-Hispanic prejudice made it illegal for Mexican Americans to file mining claims, and the same stereotype may have been at work here, to assign a declasse' first name to a complex murderer; her live-in boyfriend was Hispanic.
