About This Item
The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:
Desmond Bagley: British writer of mysteries and thrillers, Desmond Bagley began as a worker in the aviation industry before emigrating to South Africa, where he took up writing as a full time career. He published seventeen novels, as well as being a freelance writer and film critic. Bagley died in 1983. (Fitting for the title, this novel runs 320 pages, and at a total of over 700 pages, this is just about one of the thickest anthologies put out by the DBC.)
John Greenwood: British crime/detective novel writer. Died in 1986. Published 29 novels in three series: the Simon Kenworthy series of 17 novels, published between 1968 and 1987; the Derbyshire series of six novels published between 1976 and 1987; and the Mr. Mosley series of six, published between 1983 and 1987. This is the sixth and final Mr. Mosley novel.
Charles Goodrum: Goodrum worked at the Library of Congress, as the Librarian of the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service. Later he became the Director of the Office of Planning and Development until his retirement. He wrote four mystery novels, all featuring Edward George, and four works of nonfiction. Goodrum died in 2012. This is the third of those four mysteries.
