About This Item
London: Society Promoting Christian Knowledge, c1896. Cloth. Very Good. 7" by 5". Various. A memoir of the famous children's author, Juliana Horatia Ewing, written by her sister Horatia Katharine Frances Gatty. Copiously illustrated with numerous monochromatic illustrations throughout, and a photographic frontispiece of Ewing. Including a bound-in list of Ewing's works. Juliana Horatia Ewing was the daughter of the English children's author and writer on marine biology, Margaret Gatty, and a famous children's author in her own right. Her writing was renowned for its sympathetic portrayal of (and insight into) children's lives, and for ardently reflecting Ewing's strong Anglican faith. Moreover, Ewing also worked as an editor of a number of magazines that published short stories for children, such as the 'Nursery Magazines', the 'Monthly Packet', and 'Aunt Judy's Magazine'. In a half cloth binding with patterned boards. Externally, very smart. Slight edge wear and sunning to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Tidemark to reverse of the frontispiece. Age toning to front free endpaper. Very Good
