Laid in is a 1 1/2-page typed poem by Nathan that he describes as "a small Ode or Odelet on the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Publishing Company of Alfred and Blanche Knopf," which he offers to the Bullocks: "Dear Marie- Here's the (?) verse for Alfred and Blanche (my pen ran out of ink!)
