About This Item
New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, Inc., 1941. First limited edition. One of 500 numbered copies (and with the tipped-in publisher's note stating that this was intended to be a signed edition but as the Vicomte Gantan De Poncins was called back to his country for the war his signature was temporarily unavailable but the publisher would fulfill this goal). Octavo. xii, 339, [1] pp. plus 32 pages of photographic ilustrations in the rear. Publisher's quarter red leather over buckram boards, gilt spine lettering, t.e.g. In the publisher's red slipcase with printed paper cover label. Some aging to slipcase (one joint split). Spine extremities of volume with light wear. A very good copy of this iconic book.
Synopsis
"This is an extraordinary book. Ostensibly a study of Eskimo life, it is actually a study of the Stone Age mind. There is nothing in or out of print quite like it, and it is not probable that anything like it will ever be written again."
