Leipzig, Weigel, 1843. 8°, XII; 403 S., 12 lithographierten Tafeln (davon 8 getönt und 2 gefaltet), 8 Textholzstiche., Orig.-Broschur (Interimseinband), Min. stockfleckig, Falttaf. im Falz gerissen (hinterlegt), Bindung etwas locker, insgesamt schönes Exemplar. Seltene, erste deutsche Ausgabe. Burnes (1805 - 1841), Cousin des Dichters Robert Burns, war Offizier der "'Bengal Infantry" der Britischen Ostindien-Kompanie, reiste 1836 im Auftrag der britischen Regierung zu Dost Mohammed, dem unberechenbaren Herrscher von Afghanistan, nach Kabul. Im Frühjahr 1838 mußte er Kabul verlassen, kehrte 1839 mit der britischen Armee zurück und wurde bei einem Aufstand getötet. Er lieferte im vorliegenden Werk und a. die erste Wörtersammlung der bisher unbekannten Sprache der Siahposch (Kafir). Das Werk geht ausführlich auf die politische, wirtschaftliche Situation und das gesellschaftliche Leben in Afghanistan ein und beschreibt die Kämpfe zwischen Afghanen und Sikhs. Die Tafeln mit Ansichten von Kabul und Amritsar, außerdem baktrische Münzen, Inschriften, Porträts (Burnes in der Tracht von Buchara, Mohammed Khan, Hyat Kafila Bashi), etc. Die Beschreibung des Wirtschaftslebens mit interessanten Details, z. B. Verzeichnis der Läden auf dem Basar von Dera Ghazi Khan am Indus, Liste der Import- und Export-Artikel auf dem Basar zu Kabul. 010

Sales return
In the event of a well-founded claim, the merchandise can be returned upon consultation within 14 days. If the claim turns out to be unsubstantiated, or the damage is the result from improper handling by the customer etc., all the costs are charged to the customer. Returns are only accepted with the invoice enclosed. Damages during shipment have to be notified within 48 hours. Otherwise the refund expires. Return upon dissatisfaction is excluded.
Place of venue
We are subject only to Swiss law. Place of venue is Zurich.
