Full green calf with spine gilt lettering and rules and intricate ornate front board rules and decoration, inner dentelles, slipcase. 135pp. All edges gilt. Marbled glossy endpapers. Very good/very good. Spine calf sunned to brown and a tad delicate; brown cloth and marbled paper-over-boards slipcase faintly edgeworn but strong. Later printing of this poem first published in 1880. "Translated and Adapted / By His Friend and Pupil / F.B. / (Sir Richard Francis Burton)" -- meaning Burton himself actually wrote this poem, taking a long-established Arabic verse form and making of it a kind of spiritual autobiography.
