About This Item
London: Philip Allan & Co, 1925. Burton's conceit here is that he is a mere translator, rather than the author. Since its first appearance in 1880 the "Lay of the Higher Law" has been published numerous times; this is one of the nicer editions. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition Thus. Black cloth binding, ruled on the front and back covers, with titling in gilt on front and spine. Clean text; xiii, 169 pages; twelve fantastic illustrations by John Kettelwell (1890-1933). No dustwrapper; in an archival plastic protector.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by John Kettelwell. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
