London: Adam and Charles Black, 1905. First, limited. Very Good. Kate Greenaway. A very good copy of this limited edition (No 35 of 500) of a biography of most famous Victorian era children's illustrator Cream cloth binding with gilt titles on spine and front cover and top edge gilt Front cover blind stamped with arts and crafts geometric design Endpapers reproduce appealing wall paper created by the artist Spine ends fraying a bit from shelf wear, edges also have minor shelf wear and corners are bumped But binding is still sound and hinges intact, unusual for such a large and heavy book of this age
Text all in very good condition Bookplate of previous owner, Helen C Waterhouse, herself a noted artist, affixed on the ffep, together with a second label from her son, T Waterhouse on the next blank page
Most importantly, this copy is one of a few that incorporates an actual pencil sketch by Greenaway of a young boy framed on a special page before the half title The sketch page is signed by her brother, John Greenaway, as authentication He has also signed a second time on the limitation page
Overall, a very good copy with an actual sample of the artist's work

Kate Greenaway (1846 â€" 1901) was an English Victorian artist and writer, known for her children's book illustrations The depictions of children in imaginary 18th-century costumes in a Queen Anne style were extremely popular in England and internationally, sparking the Kate Greenaway style Within a few years of the publication of Under the Window Greenaway's work was imitated in England, Germany and the United States The Kate Greenaway Medal, established in her honor, is awarded annually to an illustrator of children's books 301 pp.

1969. FINE. Original oil on board, 11 1/2 x 8 in. framed with linen mat. SIGNED and dated CAA lower right, framed dimensions 17 1/2 x 14 label on back "General Store Gallery / Austin, Texas" and sealed. Photos on request. James Boren was one of the deans of modern western painters in Texas. Born in Waxahachie, Boren was inducted into the Cowboy Artists of America and became one of its most celebrated and honored members. His preferred media was watercolor. Few oils have come to market. In the late 1960s he and fellow CAA member Melvin Warren, both established homes and studios in the small central Texas town of Clifton and helped turn that city into something of a western artist's colony. This small gem in oil is rare to see and not offered for sale previously, having been purchased by me from the original owner in San Antonio in the early 1980's. Only a few oils have turned up on the auction sights, most recent items are $3,000 - 8,000.00.
