Denison, Texas, is unique among small cities because it deserves a special niche in the history of both railroading and Texas. It was conceived and developed by the Katy Railroad as its southern terminal and grew to serve five railway systems. In its heyday, 43 daily passenger trains served Denison. When the H&TC met the Katy there in 1873, their joining connected the US by rail for the first time. Katy made history, too. An engine wiper's son went from Denison to become president of the United States. A crew dispatcher's daughter made a fortune selling Hollywood stories like ''Gone With the Wind'' and ''The Grapes of Wrath.'' Another ''Katy son'' designed and built the eternal flame marking the grave of President John F Kennedy. The four Marx Brothers got their start as a comedy team on a Denison stage. These stories, and many more, are told in Katy's Baby. Description text copyright 2007 BooksForComfort. Item ID 13817.
