Bound in purple buckram. Very clean and crisp. This sale marked the beginning of foreign competition for the best young colts. At this sale a Japanese dominated syndicate bid $600,000 for Wajima, who was from Bold Rulers last crop of foals. Wajima went on to earn an Eclipse Award as best 3-year-old colt in 1975 and was syndicated for a record $7.2 million when he was retired to stud. The gold standard of thoroughbred horse auctions.
