Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Company. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1932. First Edition. Hardcover. Biggers wrote six Charlie Chan books between 1925 and 1932; this was the last in his series of detective novels of a fictional Honolulu police dectective name Charlie Chan. Nearly fifty movies were made based on his character. This is a first edition in the publisher's original black cloth covers with orange spine and cover lettering. Decorated end papers of an airplane in flight on a moonlit night--there is a short split toward the top of the front inner hinge. There is light wear to the covers, especially at top of spine; the spine also has vertical creasing. This copy has been read is slightly loose. Previous owner gift inscription and on the opposite blank frontis paper, in penci,l is a handwritten transcription of "Who Loves the Rain" a poem by Francis Dawes. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 307 pages .

Synopsis

This novel is a murder mystery starring Charlie Chan, the Chinese detective from Honolulu. It is set on the shores of Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada during early spring - for the first time Charlie Chan sees a snowy landscape! Charlie Chan is a house guest when Ellen Landini, a famous opera singer, is murdered. The suspects include her three former husbands, her present cast-off husband, her current intended and his sister, an ex-boyfriend and his jealous wife, and the first husband's loyal Chinese servant - all of whom were present in the house at the time.
