Yellow coloured tint to the top text edge. Plaintext dustwrapper with blue and white coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. This book is a first English translation published in 1962. Rudolf Bultmann, in New Testament scholarship, wrote of the Recovery of the Kerygma – accusing fellow theologians of turning a blind eye to the fact that the Kerygma was " ... embedded in the language and thought-forms of First Century mythology, with a Jewish apocalyptic or Hellenistic Gnosticism. But neither of these is acceptable to a man nurtured on modern scientific thinking, and Kerygma is rejected with myth. Bultmann would therefore conserve the Kerygma and make it excepted by interpreting, not – as did the Liberal Protestants – by eliminating it. Bultmann proposes and interpretation in terms of existentialist philosophy." – from the front fold over panel blurb of volume 1. This created a theological storm in Germany and volume 1 and volume 2 are arguments and essays by theologians arguing against Bultmann's hypothesis, with some of the responses by Bultmann. *Kerygma: – is defined as "the apostolic proclamation of salvation through Jesus Christ" – online dictionary of Merriam-Webster. Volume 1: – softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with a little rubbing of the book corners and lower book edges. Tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. There are some stains to the text edges. Offset tanning, faint foxing to the end pages. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing is also present as is a to the dustwrapper panels. Sunning of the back strip and of the rear panel. Stains and handling marks are present to the rear panel and there is a small tear to the top edge of the rear panel. Volume 2: – a little rubbing and softening of the back strip edges with rubbing to the lower edges and top book corners.
