The scenes alternate between New York and China, with a glimpse of London. The time is now. The story begins after the war and ends in 1948, year of inflation, struggle and portent. Those people in their endless variety are in this book....all of them, villain and hero, poet and peasant, rebel and scholar, male and female. The Kinfolk who give the book its title are the family of the famous Dr. Liang... The familiar rust brown boards with gilt embossed design to front board and spine containing the title.
