About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1932. First Edition, First Issue. Cloth. Very good. First edition, first issue of King Kong by Delos W. Lovelace, conceived by Edgar Wallace and Merian C. Cooper.. Octavo, [vi], 249pp, [1]. Green cloth, title stamped in brown. Brown top stain. Pictorial endpapers. Lacking the scarce dust jacket. Light sunning to green cloth at the spine, faint soiling to rear panel, rubbing to tips at both ends of the spine. Previous ownership notation on front pastedown endpaper, bookseller's label on rear pastedown endpaper, dedication on half-title erased. Masonic Library stamp following last page of text. (Reginald 09268) A very good and attractive example. The novelization of King Kong by Delos W. Lovelace was published in December 1932, and in early 1933, a serialization titled "King Kong" by Walter F. Ripperger appeared in Mystery Magazine. Both were published in advance of the movie's release in early 1933. Lovelace's novelization did not appear again until 1965, when it was released in paperback form by Bantam Publishing.
