Book of the Month Club (BOMC) edition. Dot on back cover corner, jacket unpriced. Charcoal cloth & black cloth back. Orange endpapers, top edge tinted orange. BOMC run-on with the first edition. Translated by Dmitri Nabokov in collaboration with the author.

Synopsis

Originally written in 1928, it was translated from Russian to English by Nabokov's son in 1968. The novel is the story of well-to-do Dreyer, who has a lovely but terriby cold wife, named Martha.  Bored, manipulative Martha plots to make a lover of Dreyer's nephew, Franz, when he comes to work for Dreyer in Berlin.
