Kingsville, TX: Printed for the King Ranch, 1957. Book. Collectible-VG. Buckram. Limited Edition. Illustrated with numerous plates, vignettes, maps and drawings by Tom Lea. Full coarse linen binding stamped with the Running W Brand, linen slipcase with leather spine title label. This is known as The Saddle Blanket Edition, first edition, first state. Two Volumes. One of a limited edition of 3000 copies. Signed with an inscription by Belton Johnson, a King Ranch family member, one of 250 First Editions reoffered by The Book Club of Texas in 1992 to its members. Ten Appendices and Sources at the end of Volume 1 with a beautiful two page color map of The Ranch. Some faint staining to the outside of the slipcase, otherwise tight and clean. Laid in loosely with the book is an original NY Times newspaper article from 1987 describing the King Ranch and some hard times there, by Robert Reinhold. Also included is an original very scarce 1957 pre publication print article titled "Prodigious Growth of Cattle Domain" the founders' descendants have turned it into a worldwide business," a 14 page article with many illustrations by Tom Lea, 15 color photos, and much historical detail about the Ranch and the preparations for the forthcoming book. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
