A stated first edition of Clifford Trafzer's examination of the brutal campaign against the Navajo people in the 1860s, led by Colonel Christopher "Kit" Carson. The Navajo were pursued by Carson and his men, leading to starvation, death and eventual confinement on reservations. With frequent black & white photos and drawings, and three maps. --- In wood grain-look yellow paper-covered boards with spine titling in red foil. Volume wrapped in yellow dust jacket with images of Carson and other individuals to front and back panels. --- With prior owner's signature to front free endpaper, else an-about Near Fine copy: bright, otherwise unmarked and tightly-bound. Unpriced jacket also very nice but with slight soiling and an open tear at head of spine; wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xviii, 277 pages .
