Germany Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Reprint. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Large quarto bound in red buckram, two volumes bound as one, with gold lettering in Arabic on spine and a small label (Nadim) on upper spine. Text in German and Arabic. Page numbers not in sequence, albeit over 600 pages en toto. Vol. I Den Text Enthaltend [Readings of the Manuscripts on Which the Text is Based]; Vol II Mit Anmerkungen Herausgegeben [Edited with Annotations]. The author , Gustav Flugel died before the work was published, it was completed by Johannes Roediger and August Mueller. Originally published by F.C.W. Vogel in Leipzig, 1871, the present volume bears no publisher's information. Title page of Vol. II indicates the book was published with the support of the Deutsche Morgenlandische Gesellschaft [German Oriental Society]. This copy is a reprint edition, date unknown. Ibn al-Nadim (d. ca 995) compiled an important compendium of knowledge and literature pertaining to tenth-century Islam. Flugel's work represents a significant nineteenth century scholarly commentary on both Al-Nadim and his bibliography. No previous ownership marks. Brief notations in pencil in both English and Arabic on front end-papers. A clean, tight, and unmarked copy. Text in German and Arabic.
