About This Item
London: Blackie & Son Ltd., 1903. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Plus. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Rainey, Willlliam. Near Fine. See scans and description. London: Blackie & Son, Ltd. (no date, but best estimate circa 1930, based on jacket flap titles). With the extraordinarily scarce dust jacket, in very handsome condition. Later printing, with four Rainey illustrations (including frontispiece) and two maps. Illustrations by William Rainey, and two maps. Jacket illustration uncredited; 12mo, red cloth with black, gold and buff imprinting; English soldier on spine, no illustration on cover. 384 pp. The very uncommon pictorial jacket shows Hartley bound to a stake, but about to be freed by an accomplice. Book is near fine, with top front corner lightly bumped and a bit of dust to page edges, otherwise quite bright and tight. Jacket is price clipped and shows some rubbing, notably at rear cover, and trace edge wear, but is quite bright and distinctly better than Very Good. See scans. George Henty's adventurous "fiction of empire", in a North African installment. A later - and itself scarce - issue, in handsome condition. With a strong , bright, and almost irreplaceable Blackie dustjacket. See scans. - L15n
