About This Item
Racine, WI: Whitman Publishing Co., 1944. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Henry E. Vallely. This vintage book is a part of Whitman's "Fighters For Freedom Series" . It is a juvenile wartime mystery: "When Kitty Carter joined the Canteen Corps, she expected to find plenty of hard work, and perhaps a little romance; but spies and saboteurs, and German submarines were far removed from her mind until she happened across the clue of the burning shoe on a bus one day." This part of War Time publishing history is in very book condition, sturdy and tight but with a deft gift inscription dated 'Christmas 1945'. Pages have experienced toning. The DJ is vivid and colorful. One corner is missing. and there are some cuts and wear along edges. This book is protected in a plastic cover.
