About This Item
cat40a. Boston: Whittemore, Niles, and Hall/NY: Derby/Cincinnati: Moore, Wilstach, Keys & Co., 1855. First American edition. Original blind stamped red cloth, spine designed and lettered in gilt. Yellow end papers. An attractive 19th century Vermont library label on inner front cover, owner's signature on the title dated 1855, a bit of wear to the base of the spine, some pages yellowing, but in general a very bright, attractive, nearly fine copy, unusually nice for a book from this period. The British first edition was published in 1832. Klosterheim is a gothic novel which takes place in Swabia during the 30 Years' War. It appeared in abridged form in THE EERIE BOOK (Margaret Armour - ed. 1898) as "The Masque".
