Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin, 1896. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. 8vo., 388pp. Sharp First Edition bound in green cloth with titles in gilt on front board and spine. This is possibly a variant, not noted in BAL as all First Edition points are present save the gilt borders on the board panels and the text of the title page is b&w only. Square, tight and clean throughout with a hint of page edge toning and minimal wear to spine ends and tips. Spine gilt faded. Small, neat contemporary ownership signature on front end-paper. A very pretty collectable copy. (BAL #7928).
Synopsis
Kokoro (こゝろ, or in post-war orthography こころ) is a novel by the Japanese author Natsume Sōseki. It was first published in 1914 in serial form in the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shinbun. While the title literally means "heart", the word contains shades of meaning, and can be translated as "the heart of things" or "feeling".
