About This Item
Allen and Unwin, 1950. 1st Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. George Allen and Unwin, LTD: London, 1950. First edition, third impression (May, 1950). This copy is signed by Torstein Raaby, a crew member on the expedition. The expedition's goal was to prove that the original Polynesians sailed from South America. Raaby was the expedition's radio operator. He was also a decorated war hero, telegrapher, and explorer. "Best regards from Kon-Tiki. Luanshya, 7/2/55." The book is very good; the jacket is about good, with chipping, particularly to the top, both front and rear panels. Extensive tape reinforcement although not all of it was needed - the jacket is all together and in one piece. Not price-clipped. There is also some pink staining to the front panel, affecting about half of the letters in the title. Despite its issues, a scarce signed copy of an important exploration book.
