London: Printed for R. Manby, and sold by J. Pridden ..., 1759.. 23,[1]pp. Quarto. Extracted from nonce pamphlet volume. Half-title present but detached and mutilated. Light scattered foxing, a couple of tiny rust holes, otherwise very good. First edition. On 1 June 1761 Potter "was appointed to succeed the Rev. Joseph Brett in the mastership of Scarning school. When he went to take possession of the premises the inhabitants barred his entrance by force, as they desired the appointment of a master called Coe, who had been working the school for some time, and Potter was unable to enter until Sir Armine Wodehouse, a magistrate, had read the riot act" - DNB (online). A mid- career verse publication by Potter (1721- 1804), attended by a number of substantial footnotes in re: members of the Wodehouse family. Potter is most generally known for his translations of the plays of Ãschylus (1777), Euripides (1781-1783) and Sophocles in (1788). ESTC locates ten copies in North America. ESTC T229.
