Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1871 Full red leather a little rubbed and marked, decorative spine, five raised bands, initial S A W in gold to the front cover, gilt all round, marbled end papers, ink inscription dated 1880 to prelim, four mounted photographic plates, wood engravings, foxing throughout and occasional brown shadows from pressed flowers, tight and sound, good.
Synopsis
The Lady of the Lake marked the pinnacle of Scott's popularity as a poet. With 25,000 copies sold in eight months, it broke all records for the sale of poetry. Known as a romantic poem, it tells about love and honor amidst a bitter rivalry between King James V and the Douglas family. The book is set in the Trossachs region of Scotland and it is composed of six cantos, each concern the action of a single day.

We are based in Wigtown, the Scottish Booktown. Our shop is a converted stables, fully wheelchair accessible, and has a small peaceful garden where you are welcome to sit and relax with your books. We specialise in second-hand books on Archaeology, World Mythology and Folklore, Scottish books, Theatre, Film and TV. We also have General stock - poetry, philosophy, biography, travel, education etc - and a Children's section.Our premises are open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 10am-3pm, Sunday 11am-3pm .
