Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1884. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition thus, stated "Author's Edition." 24mo. Measuring approximately 5¼" x 4". Bound with wrappers into contemporary thin clothcovered boards with spine gilt. Tiny Brighton bookseller ticket on front pastedown. Binding slightly cocked, wrappers rubbed, a couple of preliminary and terminal leaves lightly foxed, very good or better. A nice copy; the text is otherwise fine. *BAL* 18882, a smaller format than the American and English editions and lacking five stories from those, but containing the first appearance of three Stockton stories not published in the other editions: "The Remarkable Wreck of the 'Thomas Hyke,'" "Plain Fishing," and "My Bull-Calf." (All three editions were published in 1884.) Significantly more uncommon than the Scribner's edition. *OCLC* locates about a dozen copies, only four in the U.S.
