About This Item
Sydney, Millers Point: Pier 9 / Murdoch Books, 2008. Paperback small octavo, very good condition, thick card covers (with flaps), minor edgewear. 205 pp. Ross Honeywill relates the story of Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck who created the first theory of evolution in terms of the inheritance of acquired characters (although replaced by the theory of Charles Darwin 50 years later). It is the story of Lamarck's own travels in treacherous times, and misuse by Lysenko and Soviet science. It is mainly the recent story of the controversial Australian immunologist Ted Steele, who decoded evidence that help put Lamarck back on the world stage. (The new field of epigenetics is now taking its place as an adjunct to the standard theory of Darwinian evolution.) Associated bookmark included.
