London: Trustees of the Regimental Historical Fund, 1965. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/good. Quarto (oversize). Slight wear to edges and corners of boards, more so to dust jacket. Hand numbered 93 of 600 copies. Bookplate of Ernest J. Martin former Lt. in the regiment and military historian on pastedown. SIGNED by the author on the title page. Various ephemera laid in, noting the development of the book : An advert announcing the history, in Gills Sans, asking for orders and donations ; a 4 page preview with the title and contents pages and 2 specimen pages ; a notice from the Trustess of a delay in production; 1964 statement of accounts of the Regimental Historical Fund, noting 2 fund raising dances and the cost of the book - over £3000; a list of subscribers, noting copy #1 as a donation to the Queen; a typed note from the Trustees noting the book is sent; and a letter from the author to Martin noting 3 misprints in the book. 500 p. w/ color and b&w illus., maps, chronological and alphabetical rolls, bibliography, and some 36 appendices, covering everything from Colors and standards to commanders to chaplians, prizes, regimental silver, the Underground Rifle Range, and much more. A labor of love and honor, and a thorough history of this regiment of London area volunteers over 100 years of numerous wars and actions. It is also a well documented look at the inner workings of a regiment, esp, in the first 50 years of it's existence, and it's transformations during times of war and peace.
