About This Item

RARE COLLECTION.

L'Ami du clergé was a French-language weekly review published Langres from 1878 to 1969, with an interruption in 1940-1946 due to WWII. It was concerned with the education of members of the Catholic clergy and sought to promote Social Catholicism, without the use of polemics.

A set of 33 volumes of bound periodicals, being volumes 30-40 and 52-72, including a duplicate of 52, and containing issues of L'Ami du clergé dated 1908-1923 and 1935-1962 (with a gap from 1940-46 due to the war). The set is also being sold with a few ephemera items found between the pages of various volumes.

Ex-library, coming from the National Library in the Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, Canada, these volumes contain the usual markings (stamps, etc.) and have been bound differently during certain time spans. Some are three-quarter leather-bound with gilt lettering to the spines, some have marbled or speckled boards, and some are cloth-bound. Please see listing images.

The volumes exhibit some expected age-related and library-related wear and damage, including slightly shaken volumes, abrasions, tears, and the like. The notes and underlining, presumably made by Monseigneur Maurice Baudoux (1902-1988), may prove useful to a researcher or historian. The vast majority of pages are generally in Very Good to Near Fine condition, but please note that some pages contain underlining or annotations, tape repairs, etc. and an effort was made to capture all of these flaws during scanning and the images can be provided upon request.

Please see listing images for condition details and note that, though Biblio has a limit to the number of images, we have available nearly 300 photographs and scans showing the condition of the volumes content details.

Due to the large number of volumes, with an estimated 30 000 pages, we cannot find and note all flaws, but if there is a certain issue or timeframe which you would like to confirm is whole and complete before purchase, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Additionally, the large volume and weight of the texts requires shipment in 3 boxes, each approximately 12 x 10 x 17 inches (30 x 25 x 43 cm) and weighing approximately 40, 34, and 36 lbs (18, 15, and 16 kg). Given this, expect to receive a large shipping fee increase request before your order is processed and shipped. This request may be accepted or declined via Biblio and will result in the shipping or cancellation of your order, respectively.

Recueil rare.
