Bound in olive green cloth with decorative stamping in three colors and gilt, top edge gilt. Deckled edges. Monotone frontispiece and numerous marginal illustrations. Extremities rubbed and lightly worn, most notably at corners and head/tail of spine where cloth is slightly frayed. Toning to edges of pages. Mary Austin's first book, which launches her reoccurring literary theme of the desert lands of California.

Synopsis
