13 inches tall folio hardcover, brown cloth binding, paper title label to spine, viii, 262 pp, 21 lithographic plates (19 in full color). Covers slightly bowed, light bubbling to front paste-down, faint water stain top corner not affecting text or plates, very good minus.
HORATIO C. WOOD, JR (1841 – 1920) was an American physician and biologist who attended the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania, and after serving as a surgeon in the American Civil War, continued to teach at the University. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he was known for his 1874 text Treatise on Therapeutics, which became a widely used medical textbook, and also for his botanical and zoological work: notably, his monograph on freshwater algae (offered here).
