About This Item

Netherlands: Aa Balkema, 1983. Apparent First. Hard Cover. Very Good +/No Jacket. 409 pages; VG+, clean, unmarked, solid copy in light blue cloth-covered boards. A few small smudges on front cover, small smudge on bottom edge of text block, otherwise immaculate copy. Papers in German, French and English are included. From the Preface: "This colloque was organized as an ad hoc one on the occasion of a guest professorship granted by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Dr. Johan Ludvig Sollid, Department of Geography, University of Oslo. Unfortunately Dr. Sollid had an accident during fieldwork and was injured so heavily, that even after having postponed the colloque for more than half a year he could not come to Trier. Hans Kinzl could not participate either, he died during the preparation of the colloque. Kinzl was the one who started systematic research of historical alpine glacier oscillations in the thirties and made essential progress in his work during the whole of his life. That is why the participants agreed spontaneously to dedicate to him posthumously the contribution to the colloque. The contributions for the content of which the authors are of course responsible, give an overview of the methodical and regional state of our science. Besides well known areas with dated chronologies there are many white spots on the map of the world, and the same is true accordingly for the methods. Much has been done, but still more has to be done. May this volume stimulate new studies! The publication with trilingual summaries and figure captions created some time consuming translation difficulties, but serves finally to decrease language barriers and therewith to improve the access to the content." 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
