London: Hammond, Hammond. Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. 1966. First Edition. 1. Hard Cover. Publisher's full grey cloth, gilt lettering on spine. Illustrated with B&W drawings by Michael K. Frith. Bennett Alfred Cerf (1898-1971) was an American publisher, one of the founders of American publishing firm Random House. Cerf was also known for his own compilations of jokes and puns (such as this one), for regular personal appearances lecturing across the United States, and for his television appearances in the panel game show "What's My Line?" In 1933 Cerf won "United States v. One Book Called Ulysses," a landmark court case against government censorship, and thereafter published James Joyce's unabridged "Ulysses" for the first time in the United States. . The volume is in excellent condition, unmarked, tight, and square; some light foxing on endpapers, else fine. Unclipped dust jacket is lightly chipped and worn. NEAR FINE/VERY GOOD. .
