About This Item

National Book League, London, first edition, 1975. Printed wrappers, 8vo, 19 cm,. 43 pp. 303 entries (Laurence : 250; Clemence : 24; A.E. : 29) From the introduction by I.G. Kenyur Hodgkins: - "In this exhibition of the Three Housmans I have mainly concentrated on Laurence whose output was so large and so versatile that I feel even this collection does not do him justice. I am surprised that no biography has been written for here is material that would not fill just one book but perhaps two or even three .... perhaps this exhibition might give some encouragement for such a work. Clemence was the more difficult of the three to track down. A retiring lady, apart from the out-burst during the Suffragette Movement, she has successfully managed to keep herself well and truly in the background - it was with difficulty that I managed to find even the two small articles on her - so carefully is she hidden. A.E. is another matter - his one book brought him so much fame that I decided to place him last in the exhibition - not as a punishment but because there are so many books and articles on him he can for once 'take a back seat'. Wrappers somewhat browned, otherwise Good.
