Near fine.<br/><br/> Of the greatest rarity. This classic work, by "one of the greatest physicians of all times" announces his invention of the stethoscope. His device provided the first adequate method of diagnosing diseases of the thorax and is still considered "the foundation stone of modern knowledge of diseases of the chest and their disgnosis"... "His invention of the stethoscope was the most important advance in physical diagnosis betwqeen Auenbrugger's introduction of percussion in 1761 and Roetgen's discovery of X-rays in 1895".
