Hinges are heavily cracked with exposed netting. Slight crinkling to gutters. Binding is slightly loose. Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Heavier foxing to free endpapers. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering is darkened. Slight sunning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed.
Synopsis
Lavengro: The Scholar, the Gypsy, the Priest is a work by George Borrow, falling somewhere between the genres of memoir and novel, which has long been considered a classic of 19th century English literature. According to the author lav-engro is a Romany word meaning "word master". The historian G. M. Trevelyan called it "a book that breathes the spirit of that period of strong and eccentric characters".
