Text is in the French language, translated from the German by Marie Bonaparte. Table des Matieres: L'Avenir D'une illusion, Actes Obsedants et exercices religieux, Un evenement de la vie religieuse. In L'Avenir D'Une Illusion ["The Future of an Illusion"] Freud controversially views religion and religious dogma as a "neurotic relic", a necessary step in the development of civilization and comparable to a childhood neurosis. He submits that the strength of religious illusions lies both in their usefulness in implementing ethical rules among civilized mankind, and in the innate human wish for a soothing of death anxiety. He hints at the idea that psychoanalysis, as a scientific discipline, would eventually help to dissipate this illusion. Freud even considers that the beliefs of the devoutly religious safeguard them to a high degree against the risk of certain neurotic illnesses because their acceptance of this "universal neurosis" spares them the task of constructing a personal one. #2267.. French Language Edition. Soft Cover, Stiff Wraps. Very Good. 12mo - 6¾ - 7¾ Inches Tall.
