Corner tips are square. Significant shelf-wear and fading to bottom of spine. Small stain at lower corner tip of front board, and a couple of small spots. Creases to paper board covering along the front and back joints. Some soiling and scuffing to spine. Large ding at bottom of spine strip on rear board. Small stains to upper edge and outside edges of text block that don't really appear to look like foxing stains, but could be. Former owner name, and small bookstore sticker on front pastedown. Xeroxed copy of old newspaper article is laid in and affixed to half title page, probably by the publisher as it seems to be inside of other copies. Very good edition limited to 350 of 375 copies that remains unnumbered and unsigned on the limitation page, very good brown cloth hardcover with red letter to cover and spine shows a rub spot or blemish to the cover, name stamp at top of front pastedown, tiny tear at top of rear hinge of spine head and some other very light trace wear, in very good + dust jacket (price at flap) that shows soiling to panels and spine along with edgewear that includes small chips and tears. 219 pages with black & whites. Remains a pleasing copy of this look at the legendary gunman and lawman.

Eugene Manlove Rhodes wrote of Baca "his willingness to discuss any moot point with that gun won him admiration from many and forgiveness from the few." With nine notches on his gun and being tried for murder three times, he was still alive and politically active when this book was issued. The account by the author shows New Mexico still at its wildest and where the distinction between law enforcement and criminal was often blurred. How he survived after being involved in many of the biggest gun fights is a testimony to both his coolness under fire and his expert use of the gun. It is still unknown as to whether he was appointed initially to enforce the law or merely purchased a badge. YE Gallon Press, 1970. Limited Edition. #499/605. VG. Interior is tight, clean, and free of ownership marks except for one penciled notation on the flyleaf. Cloth boards show shelf and handling wear with light soiling, edge, corner, and spine wear. Overall a solid copy showing minimal signs of use. Photo is of the copy we have here at Barbed Wire Books.

Married to an officer of the 2nd Cavalry in 1866, Sargent relates to experiences at Fort Bidwell, Fort Walla Walla, to Arizona. Four years at Fort Huachuca, Fort Bowie, to Fort Logan, Colorado and at Fort Wingate. .

"Any railroad agent can tell you about Yellowstone National Park, or address Yellowstone Park Lodge and Camps Co." Vernon Goodwin is listed as president, taking over from Howard Hays in 1924.
