About This Item

Palo Alto, California: Syntex Laboratories, Inc. , 1968. Good condition. Pages are clean and unmarked but for a previous owner's name. Offered as a reading/reference copy only due to hairline cracks to front outer hinges along spine. Illustrated with a portrait and several drawings and photos of skin diseases. A summary of the life and works of this pioneer of American Dermatology. Also reprints two of his classic papers: 1) A Case of Keratosis (Ichthyosis) Follicularis, 1889; and 2) Keratosis Follicularis, A Second Case, 1890. Includes a 16-page bibliography of White's writings. This copy is bound in the original gilt-decorated brown and black boards (apparently intended to simulate a 19th-century half-leather and marbled paper-covered board binding). Top edge gilt. The marbled endpapers in this copy are authentic, and quite attractive too. Laid-in is the flyer saying this is the fourth volume in the series, and providing a summary of the book. It says in part, "Perhaps no one else was as instrumental as White in revolutionizing American Medical education." See also: Garrison and Morton 4093. . 1st ed? (No additional printings listed). Hardcover. Good condition/No dust jacket. 8vo. 62pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well.
