Rare volume containing a history of the Clarke School for the Deaf, photographs and alumni information for this school for the deaf which offered high school preparatory and pre-vocational educational tracks. Illustrations on glossy black and white paper. Large section of alumni listings, many with checkmarks beside the name. Forward by editor Williams is an interesting snapshot in time: "For a certainty, fifteen alumni are divorced, though only four openly admitted it. Philadelphia: Thomas Desilver, 1829. Hardcover. Very Good. The Ninth Edition, Revised and Improved. viii, 184 p.; 18 cm. Modern calf with gilt-tooled spine label. Inclues index. The author, James Ross (1743-1827), was a captain in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He headed a grammar school in Carlisle, Pa., from 1780 to 1784, when he became the first faculty member of the newly founded Dickinson College. In 1792 he left Dickinson to established a school for classical learning in Chambersburg, Pa., where he wrote his popular Latin Grammar. He was professor of languages at Franklin College in Lancaster, Pa. from 18081 to 1809, when he moved to Philadelphia, where he continued to tutor students for the rest of his life. In Very Good Condition: lacking front free endpaper; closed 4-cm. tear from fore-edge of pp. 21-22; occasional soiling; light foxing; occasional marginal pencil mark; otherwise, clean and tight.

Göttingen: Steidl, 2017. Revised Steidl edition (first published as two volumes in 1977). This large format recreates the full original sequence of photos in one volume for the first time. Rich with 100 images illustrating Eggleston's pilgrimage from Memphis to the small town of Plains, Georgia (home of Jimmy Carter), where in November 1976 Carter was elected 39th President of the United States. Lonesome roads, train tracks, cars, gas stations and houses... 340 x 260 mm (13½ x 10¼ inches). In a very good condition - both inside and out. Lloyd Fonvielle says in the book's introduction: 'The photographs have a quietude and unsentimental romanticism, as well as an edge of poignance, which belie the expectations of hopefulness or portentousness suggested by a knowledge of the time and place in which they were made. On the eve of the election, when nothing had yet been decided, when everything - whatever that everything was -hung in the balance, Eggleston made an elegy... a statement of perfect calm'.

This one is in rough condition but appears to be complete and the only known original Perdue Debris Yearbook on the market before 1949. Please see photos for Fair condition. A very interesting early look at Perdue University from the Class of 1902. There are some ads at the end. No autographs other than the original owner on the ffep.

Hardcover. Overall Condition: G – to G. Second edition. Small octavo. (xxxix) 255pp. + 24pp. of the original publisher's ads at the rear. Blue-green cloth boards with blind stamped motifs on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine. Publisher's ads at interior covers. What appears to be a previous owner's name stamp appears at lower edge of title page (refer pic). The publication is the second edition of the Arnold's second collection of poems which was originally published the previous year. The book contains some of Arnold best known work including "Sorab and Rustum" and Tristram and Iseult". The book retains the original front and back covers and spine is firm. Covers stained and smudged, with some light bumping along the corners. Interior with minor age toning to the pages and occasional dust stains. Binding in good, interior in good- condition overall.
