New York: Gotham Book Mart, 1972. First Edition. No binding. Fine. Gorey, Edward. No. 238 of 500, duodecimo size, unpaginated with 17 loose cards (complete). Seventeen loose cards, each featuring a unique character with typical Gorey-esque poses; the first card is the only one containing print, with the title and author only. Edward Gorey (1925-2000) created pen-and-ink drawings depicting strange and often unsettling Victorian scenes, with a superb attention to detail and line work.
___DESCRIPTION: Unbound, the illustrations on heavy stock laid into an outer wallet of olive green heavy paper with printing on the front cover which serves as title page with copyright info on the verso including a First Printing statement, colophon information on the inside of the back wrap, this number 238 of 500 (total edition 576), publisher's device on the outside of the back wrap; the cards are duodecimo size (7" tall) and the wallet is approximately 7.5" tall. The work is enclosed in an outer envelope of light yellow laid paper with an illustration on the front which mirrors the first card.
___CONDITION: Individual cards and their wallet are all fine; clean, crisp, entirely free of bends or creases, the corners sharp. The outer envelope is very good to near fine overall; around the edges is some wear and a few short closed tears, overall light sunning and some foxing.
