The book consists of thirteen lectures on the subject of slavery as was given to students of Moral Science in Randolph Macon College. The author presents lectures on the various components of slavery. His main reason for agreeing with the institution is that is "a fundamental principle of the social state; and that domestic slavery, as an institution, is fully justified by the condition and circumstances…" of society (12). The book addresses the issues of slavery in the constitution, the government, the Bible, and the role of the oppressor.328 + [2] ad pp. Edited by Thomas O. Moderate wear, some soil, rubbing and fraying to edges and corners; foxing and toning within,
Dark brown, blindstamped cloth with gilt titles on spine. Corners slightly turned but overall a still attractive copy. The interior has some foxing, particularly on the first twenty to thirty pages. A former owner's bookplate is on the front pastedown. Book is square and securely bound with no tears or parting.
