Richmond: Printed and Published by Leonard and Virginia Woolf at The Hogarth Press, Hogarth House, 1923. Pictorial Boards. Fine. One of 400 copies printed by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. Royal 8vo (257 x 186mm): 25,[1]pp, with frontispiece and one further drawing by Duncan Grant and one figure by Vanessa Bell. Original pictorial boards printed in black; wanting the scarce plain cream dust jacket. Provenance: H. Balfour Gardiner, with his blue ink stamp to front fly-leaf. Very light occasional spotting, but an excellent example, securely bound and generally clean throughout. Woolmer 27. Laing A8. At the turn of the twentieth century, Bell was prominent in the group of friends who met on Thursday evenings at 46 Gordon Square in Bloomsbury, including Virginia Stephen (later Woolf) and her sister Vanessa, who married Bell in 1907 and illustrated this and many other books published by the Woolfs at the Hogarth Press. Henry Balfour Gardiner (1877-1950) was a British musician and composer and member of the Frankfurt Group. N. B.
