About This Item
Austin, TX: The Texas folk-Lore Society, 1924. First Edition. Octavo. 279pp. Publications of the Texas Folk-Lore Society. It took Dobie over three years to compile all the legends he could find, from newspaper, manuscripts, other books and of course, the people of Texas. He says this work is not exhaustive and could have used more help in finding other legends and had asked those who read this book to contact him. He records legends of buried treasure and lost mines legends of the supernatural, legends of lovers, pirates and pirate treasure in legend and more. Bound in blue cloth lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, chipping to foot, a few nicks to top and bottom edges, joints and head rubbed. From the library of the R.D. Wardens with their bookplate tipped in. The R. D. and Margaret S. Warden Collection is a collection of materials reflecting the Warden's interest in the art and history of the Western United States. Most of their collection is housed at the UTSA libraries special collections. Internally clean. A very scarce work. (McVickers-B3-a; Dykes-p.14-#8).
