Letters to a Lady . Letters of Ozias Midwinter . With 5 text drawings & illustrations. . *** A fascinating work, showing Hearn's great literary prowess with insight to his values. . "In this volume of letters and poems, Hearn tells of his life in the South, gives his views on the negro question, and his impressions of Memphis, New Orleans, and New York. The verses are both light and serious, and these are translations from negro and Creole love songs." Per Perkins p.53, see below. . *** THE EDITIONS: The book was issued in two editions with different bindings: . a. Copy 1: This is a most superb, superior and rare example of the FIRST EDITION LIMITED TO 2500 COPIES, an exceptionally clean andbright example with no rubbing to the binding. There are two barely visible small water splotches on the front cloth in the lower area, of little impact. . The dust jacket is by and large excellent rare with original green color with some of the typical and usual but minor rubbing to the jacket corners, spine head & tail. Contents remains pristine. about as good as it can get! In collector's RARE condition, far and above the better average example. . We tend to be overly critical of book condition, suffice to say this gem is a truly attractive and seldom found in such superb condition, based on over 55 years experiece. * Copy 4 has some mild damp stain to the front or back cover, wear, minor loss to top/bottom of spine, bumped, mended corners, contents remains brilliantly clean, top edge gilt. . *** REFERENCE: .
